Most purse thefts are opportunistic - don't give thieves a helping hand!

This area remains a safe place to live, work and visit; purse and bag thefts are rare.

However, it's important to stay vigilant and keep yourself safe by following a few simple tips when out and about.

Handbags and purses should be securely fastened.

Keep your purse in an inside coat pocket.

Never leave bags unattended.

Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.

Don't keep PIN numbers with your bank cards and never give out your PIN number to anyone.
